JAROMATIC™
Automatic jar and bottle opener.
Company: Jermanco
My name is Jerry Russell and inventor of the patented JAROMATIC automatic jar opener. US Patent #6,148,692. JAROMATIC opens almost all jars & bottles with the push of a button. It is a simple machine that utilizes both axial motion and rotational motion to open jars & bottles with twist-off lids. The axial motion clamps the jar between the 2 surfaces, then with increasing force, causes rotation to remove the lid.
I have been working on this invention for more than 10 years, and was granted a utility patent for the mechanism in November, 2000. A utility patent, unlike a design patent, recognizes the uniqueness of the mechanism. Since then, I have been trying to get this most needed appliance mass produced and sold to the consuming public. My first handmade prototype worked so well and was so unique that I received a patent for the mechanism. While in the patent-pending status, it was submitted to dozens of major appliance manufacturers. At first I was told that no company would be interested until it was patented. After receiving the patent, I was told that it was a niche product, without much commercial value. Then, I was told it would be too expensive to mass produce. All of these have been proven false.
I submitted this invention to Black & Decker in December, 1999. They kept the prototype until June 2000, when they returned it, saying they were considering making a jar opener. In 2003, they introduced the Lids-Off jar opener. It utilized old technology that had been patented before. Upon investigation, I learned they had utilized a design from a U of Buffalo student. Also, they utilized a U of Buffalo grant of $4.5 million from the U.S. Dep't of Education (NIDRR) to help develop their product. When I inquired about having this invention reviewed by their staff under the grant, they refused to assist me.
U of Buffalo has received $16.5 million in grants from NIDRR to introduce innovative products to the consuming public, especially to those who have disabilities. This invention is superior to B & D's Lids-Off, yet I was excluded from the same assistance given to B & D. Their newest NIDRR grant of $4.75 million is available only to companies in the "Fortune 500" list. These are taxpayer funds being utilized only by top corporations. The grant was supposed to include "small companies and individual inventors", obviously untrue!
Despite the limited range of jars & bottles it will open, B & D has sold in excess of 2.5 million Lids-Off jar openers. According to several publications and research companies, the automatic jar opener appliance is a much needed consumer product. It has the potential for increased sales, both now and into the future.
I am 70 years old, and do not want to start another company to manufacture this product. With little additional design or engineering, it can be produced for under $8.00 complete. With a competitive price of $39.95, it yields a great profit potential. My goal is to see JAROMATIC produced and sold to the consuming public. Therefore, I offer the following:
To companies that want to purchase the invention JAROMATIC for development and profits: $450,000 for all prototypes, patents, research, trademark, websites, and my assistance to accomplish the goal. Payments can be arranged.
Proposals for receiving royalties based on production and sales should include an up-front fee and quarterly payments, with funds received charged to future earned royalties. Submit your proposal.
To individuals, venture capitaliats, and companies who would like to invest time, resources, or money, please contact me with your specific goals and percentage of involvement desired.
I am available to answer any question, proposal, or concern you may have.
